The technologies that now qualify as the third generation include increased functionality of mobile phones; with increased speeds and bandwidth being the biggest appealing factors. Multimedia functionality on the networks also improves, by leaps and bounds, with the move to these new technologies.
While 3G capable phones are incredibly appealing to cell phone buyers they may find that not all of the functionality their phones are capable of available to them. Carriers in the US have yet to fully roll out their upgraded networks in all markets. AT&T is leading the market right now, with their networks being available in most major metropolitan markets; however the biggest AT&T seller, the iPhone, is not 3G capable. Apple has stated that a third generation version might be possible in the future when the networks are more widely available in the US.
T-Mobile is trailing behind AT&T when it comes to their network. Until recently, none of the third generation capable phones T-Mobile sold could have their full functionality used; simply because the infrastructure is not yet fully in place across the T-Mobile markets. T-Mobile has recently launched their new network in New York, allowing New York customers the ability to take advantage of the full functionality of their 3G capable phones.
3G will, soon, become the standard technology in the mobile industry; it is just up to the wireless carriers to ensure that they quickly meet the demands of their users who want to take advantage of the third generation technologies as soon as possible.

Although the night sky is well mapped and extremely fascinating, it is also complex. To spark long-remembered conversations and moments to be shared, start with a few simple searches for planets that are visible to the naked-eye: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. The best opportunity to observe Mercury is when it is at its highest point in the sky. Sometimes Mercury is visible in the evening. In this case you can start observing Mercury shortly after sunset but you will have less than an hour until the planet sets below the horizon. At other times Mercury is visible in the morning. You will be able to see Mercury at most an hour or so before sunrise and can observe it until the light from the rising sun drowns it out.
Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Whenever Venus is visible, it is much brighter than anything in the sky, with the exception of the sun and moon.
Mars is the fourth closest planet to the sun. When Mars is bright, it is bright red; when it is dim, it is a pale pink (at such times it may be difficult to see any color at all). Mars goes from bright to dim back to bright every two years.

As parent and child begin their journey of the solar system, remember, it is suppose to be fun. There are so many stars in the sky that you might want to start simple and build your way. Astronomy for kids does not need to be confusing or intimidating. It can simply be fun and bonding!
Although the night sky is well mapped and extremely fascinating, it is also complex. To spark long-remembered conversations and moments to be shared, start with a few simple searches for planets that are visible to the naked-eye: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. The best opportunity to observe Mercury is when it is at its highest point in the sky. Sometimes Mercury is visible in the evening. In this case you can start observing Mercury shortly after sunset but you will have less than an hour until the planet sets below the horizon. At other times Mercury is visible in the morning. You will be able to see Mercury at most an hour or so before sunrise and can observe it until the light from the rising sun drowns it out.
Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Whenever Venus is visible, it is much brighter than anything in the sky, with the exception of the sun and moon.
Mars is the fourth closest planet to the sun. When Mars is bright, it is bright red; when it is dim, it is a pale pink (at such times it may be difficult to see any color at all). Mars goes from bright to dim back to bright every two years.
Jupiter is the fifth closest planet to the sun. Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System. Jupiter is lost in the Sun's glare. Nevertheless, it is out there, on the other side of the Sun from Earth and 580 million miles away from our planet. It returns to view in mid-January, low in the morning sky.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn appears pale yellow to the naked eye. Although never appearing quite as bright as the other planets, it is still obvious when the position is found.

Fun Science Projects
We have a number of short Examples Of Science Fair Projects. In this short easy elementary science projects we are going to see some of the interesting things that happen because of the density of liquids. The density of and object has to do with how tightly packed the object is. Two objects can weigh the same but one is smaller than the other, the smaller one is packed more tightly and is therefore denser than the other object. These experiments are meant to make learning fun and are also very suitable for homeschoolers.
The floating egg experiment
What you will need for this easy elementary science project:
A container
Water
An egg
Salt
A spoon
This is what you have to do for this easy experiment:
Fill the container with enough water to cover the egg completely.
Carefully place the egg in the water.
What happens to the egg?

Learning Basic English
English has become the international language of business and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Whether it's a German project manager dealing with a French auto parts manufacturer or a Chinese software developer advising a Mexican medical center the intermediary language is English. So why exactly has English taken front stage when there are so many other languages spoken by a much greater number of people over much vaster regions? The answer lies in the in the simplicity of the grammatical structure of the English language at its most basic level. Unlike most other languages English doesn't use the genitive case for definitive articles. This means that every "thing" in English uses the pronoun "it" and the definite article "the".

Of course, there are also political, historical and economic reasons for English being the most used language when it comes to modern business but the fact that it is easy to get a grasp of Basic English has to be the most appealing advantage for non native speakers of English. Ironically, it is communication between the native English speaker and the non-native English speaker that tends to create the most problems. The reason for this is the tendency of the native English speaker to slip into colloquial speech, slang, idiomatic language, speak too quickly or a simple matter of harsh regional accents. But when two or more non-native English speakers communicate in Basic English it usually works out fine because nobody is out to impress and the ultimate goal is to simply understand and respond at a simple level. This is not to say that English doesn't have complexities, in fact at higher levels it can be just as difficult as any other language but as long as a learner uses the famous K.I.S.S. technique (Keep It Short And Simple) it is definitely the easiest language for global communication.

Microsoft belakangan semakin memperhatikan masalah ini. Terbukti dengan komitmen Microsoft untuk terus menambahkan fitur-fitur security sebagai patch atau upgrade versi. Tapi otomatis ini tidak akan menyelesaikan masalah bila anda tidak menginstall patch tersebut. Kalau anda terhubung ke Internet, anda bisa mengaktifkan fitur Live Update yang otomatis akan mengupdate sistem operasi anda secara berkala.
Bila anda tidak punya koneksi Internet, anda bisa mendapatkan kumpulan update/patch dari Microsoft yang biasanya disebut sebagai Service Pack. Kalau anda menggunakan Windows XP, sangat disarankan anda menginstall Service Pack yang kedua (Windows XP SP-2). Di dalamnya banyak sekali fitur security yang ditambahkan. Di antaranya firewall dan popup blocker untuk Internet Explorer.

2. Disiplin Saat Browsing Internet
Kalau anda sering connect ke Internet, sebaiknya jangan gunakan IE (Internet Explorer) versi 6 dan sebelumnya. Gunakan Mozilla Firefox atau Opera. Kalau terpaksa pakai IE, pakai versi 7. IE 6 dan sebelumnya dikenal memiliki banyak lobang dan celah keamanan. Microsoft termasuk cukup lambat dalam mengupdate browsernya, karena itu celah keamanan sering dibiarkan terbuka terlalu lama tanpa ditambal. Selain itu seperti alasan yang dikemukakan sebelumnya, karena IE merupakan browser yang paling banyak dipergunakan, para hacker juga suka bereksperimen dengan IE.
Hindari pula berkunjung ke situs-situs underground yang menawarkan barang bajakan atau pornografi. Situs-situs semacam itu banyak menyertakan virus dan spyware secara terselubung bersama program-program yang mereka berikan.
Jangan sembarangan download apalagi install program dari sumber yang tidak jelas. Bila anda butuh suatu program dan anda menemukannya di Internet, namun pembuatnya tidak cukup terkenal atau bonafide, konsultasikan dulu dengan teman anda yang lebih mengerti apakah program tersebut cukup aman untuk dipergunakan. Termasuk jangan suka install toolbar untuk IE, screen saver, dan program-program tidak jelas lainnya kalau anda tidak paham konsekuensinya.

3. Aktifkan Firewall di Jaringan
Kalau komputer anda terkoneksi di jaringan (LAN di kantor atau Internet), selalu hidupkan firewall. Windows XP SP-2 sudah menyertakan firewall yang biarpun fungsinya minimal tapi lebih baik daripada tidak sama sekali. Firewall akan menghalangi akses-akses yang tidak terotorasi oleh pihak lain. Firewall biasanya cukup ampuh untuk menangkal worm dan trojan.

4. Hati-Hati Membuka Email
Email yang kita terima bukan hanya email yang kita harapkan, tapi bisa juga berupa spam atau junk mail. Biasanya email tersebut berisi iklan penawaran produk tertentu atau link ke situs-situs tertentu. Tapi tidak jarang pula email tersebut disertai satu attachment yang berisi satu aplikasi yang bila anda jalankan akan menjangkiti komputer anda dengan virus.
Pastikan attachment yang anda buka memang anda harapkan. Artinya anda memang menunggu kiriman sesuatu dari orang yang sudah anda kenal. Sekalipun pengirimnya sudah anda kenal, kalau ada attachment yang tidak anda minta, pastikan dulu ke pengirimnya apa isi attachment tersebut. Karena tidak jarang orang melakukan spoofing, menggunakan nama teman anda untuk mengirimkan virus.

5. Hati-Hati Saat Membuka Storage Orang Lain
Saat anda membuka storage orang lain, entah yang removable (CD, DVD, Flashdisk, Disket, dan lain sebagainya) atau yang fixed (network share atau website), berhati-hatilah. Bukan tidak mungkin anda menemukan harta karun berupa file yang sudah terjangkiti virus. Sebisa mungkin jangan berbagi storage. Berbagi storage = joinan kuman.
AVG Antivirus
6. Pasang AntiVirus dan Anti Spyware Bila Perlu
Sebenarnya jika anda sudah mengikuti lima tip di atas, anda tidak memerlukan lagi software antivirus atau anti spyware. Tapi bila anda terpaksa (karena pekerjaan atau hobi) harus membuka situs-situs underground, terima email-email gak jelas, atau sharing storage dengan orang lain, sebaiknya anda beri proteksi tambahan pada komputer anda berupa program antivirus atau anti spyware.
Program-program ini biasanya memang bikin komputer jalan lebih lambat karena sifatnya yang TSR (Terminate & Stay Resident). Artinya begitu program ini dijalankan, dia akan tinggal terus di komputer anda untuk memonitor aktivitas anda. Setiap anda membuka, mengubah, atau meng-copy file, antivirus akan melakukan checking apakah aktivitas itu legal (memang anda yang melakukan atau virus yang melakukan). Program juga biasanya akan mengecek database internal nya untuk melihat adakah gejala-gejala komputer terinfeksi virus.
Kalau tidak mau komputer jadi lambat karena antivirus, coba gunakan antivirus AVG. Antivirus ini lebih enteng (tidak memakan terlalu banyak sumber daya komputer) dibanding anti virus lain yang lebih populer macam Norton Anti Virus, McAfee, Kaspersky, dan Bit Defender. Dan ada versi gratisnya loh. Jangan lupa, gunakan satu saja program antivirus di komputer anda. Lebih dari satu biasanya lebih merepotkan dan banyak konflik.
Untuk anti spyware anda bisa gunakan LavaSoft Ad-Aware dan Spybot Search & Destroy. Gunakan keduanya kalau perlu. Aplikasi anti spyware biasanya hanya dijalankan on-demand (saat diperlukan), bukan model TSR seperti antivirus. Jalankan anti spyware anda secara berkala untuk menghilangkan “mata-mata” dari komputer anda.
Bagaimana Kalau Sudah Terinfeksi
Keenam tips di atas adalah pencegahan. Bila diikuti, mestinya anda sudah bisa menggunakan komputer anda dengan aman dan nyaman tanpa takut dihinggapi virus-virus pengganggu. Tapi kalau anda belum melakukan pencegahan tapi komputer anda sudah kebobolan bagaimana penyembuhannya? Kalau sudah kebobolan, biasanya anda sudah tidak bisa menginstall antivirus untuk menyembuhkannya karena virus sudah cukup cerdik untuk menghalangi anda menginstall software antivirus.

7. Minta Tolong Orang Lain
Langkah ini paling gampang, namun butuh biaya tambahan-bila anda minta bantuan profesional seperti teknisi komputer. Tapi juga agak beresiko. Bukan tidak mungkin foto-foto atau dokumen pribadi anda disebarkan di Internet oleh pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Jadi kalau anda tidak punya teman yang bisa dipercaya, lebih baik anda belajar sendiri “menyembuhkan” komputer anda. Simak langkah-langkah berikut untuk melakukannya.

8. Pembersihan Manual
Kalau anda tahu jenis virus yang menjangkiti komputer anda, anda bisa mencari informasi lebih lanjut tentang virus itu dengan bantuan Google. Situs-situs penyedia software anti virus biasanya juga menyediakan program-program kecil untuk membersihkan virus tertentu yang populer. Anda bisa mendownload program tersebut (biasanya gratis) dan membersihkan virus di komputer anda.
Sayangnya, biasanya virus tidak bekerja sendiri, begitu menginfeksi, dia juga membuka pintu (Trojan) untuk virus-virus yang lain agar masuk. Jadi anda bisa repot atau menghabiskan banyak waktu untuk membersihkan semua virus. Supaya praktis, anda bisa baca tips ke-sembilan.

Tapi hati-hatilah kalau harddisk anda dipartisi. Formatlah semua drive yang ada untuk memastikan komputer anda bersih dari virus. Tentunya selamatkan dulu data anda sebelum melakukannya. Copykan ke flashdisk atau media lain.

Jangan sembarangan download apalagi install program dari sumber yang tidak jelas. Program-program ini biasanya memang bikin komputer jalan lebih lambat karena sifatnya yang TSR (Terminate & Stay Resident). Artinya begitu program ini dijalankan, dia akan tinggal terus di komputer anda untuk memonitor aktivitas anda. Setiap anda membuka, mengubah, atau meng-copy file, antivirus akan melakukan checking apakah aktivitas itu legal (memang anda yang melakukan atau virus yang melakukan). Program juga biasanya akan mengecek database internal nya untuk melihat adakah gejala-gejala komputer terinfeksi virus.
Kalau tidak mau komputer jadi lambat karena antivirus, coba gunakan antivirus AVG. Antivirus ini lebih enteng (tidak memakan terlalu banyak sumber daya komputer) dibanding anti virus lain yang lebih populer macam Norton Anti Virus, McAfee, Kaspersky, dan Bit Defender. Dan ada versi gratisnya loh. Jangan lupa, gunakan satu saja program antivirus di komputer anda. Lebih dari satu biasanya lebih merepotkan dan banyak konflik.
Untuk anti spyware anda bisa gunakan LavaSoft Ad-Aware dan Spybot Search & Destroy. Gunakan keduanya kalau perlu. Aplikasi anti spyware biasanya hanya dijalankan on-demand (saat diperlukan), bukan model TSR seperti antivirus. Jalankan anti spyware anda secara berkala untuk menghilangkan “mata-mata” dari komputer anda.

Malware merupakan program yang bisa membahayakan komputer anda dan melakukan operasi tanpa anda sadari atau tanpa anda intervensi.

Pishing, sebuah website gadungan atau tiruan yang akan mencuri data username dan password anda. Terutama kegiatan phising ini ditujukan untuk online banking. Anda login pada sebuah website bank untuk melakukan transaksi keuangan, tapi tanpa anda sadari ternyata website tersebut merupakan website tiruan atau gadungan yang didesaian semirip mungkin dengan website aslinya. Akibatnya bisa anda tebak, username dan password anda untuk login ke website yang asli, telah berhasil dicuri. Dan tinggal menunggu waktu, bila kemudian data pribadi anda tersebut disalahgunakan.
Kegiatan phising bisa juga terjadi lewat email yang anda terima. Spyware adalah aplikasi mata-mata yang akan memonitor kegiatan di komputer anda. Spyware ini biasanya akan merekam website yang anda kunjungi, mencatat password dan username anda dan kemudian mengirimkan kepada orang yang membuat program spyware tersebut.
Malware merupakan program yang bisa membahayakan komputer anda dan melakukan operasi tanpa anda sadari atau tanpa anda intervensi.
Keylogger, sebuah aplikasi kecil yang akan mencatat setiap tombol keyboard yang tekan. Aplikasi ini terutama ditujukan untuk mencuri data username dan password anda.
Upaya pengamanan terhadap pengacau seperti Spyware, malware, hacking atau keylohger ini bisa anda lakukan dengan cara :
- Pergunakan firewall di komputer anda, yang akan mengontrol aplikasi-aplikasi yang terhubung ke network atau internet. Jadi bila ada aplikasi yang berusaha mengirimkan data-data pribadi anda ke luar atau kepada orang lain, maka firewall akan memberikan peringatan kepada anda, sehingga anda pun bisa terhindar dari pencurian data ini.
- Selalu berhati-hati dalam menginstal atau mendownload file di internet. Pengacau-pengacau seperti ini bisa bersembunyi di aplikasi-aplikasi yang menggoda anda. Bila anda tidak terlalu mengetahui secara detil tentang suatu aplikasi atau program, sebaiknya anda jangan mendownload. atau mengintalnya. Selalu cek dan recek, perusahaan yang mengeluarkan aplikasi tersebut, kalaupun akhirnya anda tidak bisa menahan diri untuk menginstal aplikasi tersebut, sebaiknya anda download aplikasi tersebut di website yang benar-benar aman dan sudah terbukti baik kredibilitasnya.
- Hati-hati juga terhadap browser plug ini, active x atau java aplication. Bila suatu hari anda mengunjungi sebuah website, dan website tersebut meminta anda untuk menginstal suatu program atau aplikasi, sebaiknya anda hati-hati.
Pishing, sebuah website gadungan atau tiruan yang akan mencuri data username dan password anda. Terutama kegiatan phising ini ditujukan untuk online banking. Anda login pada sebuah website bank untuk melakukan transaksi keuangan, tapi tanpa anda sadari ternyata website tersebut merupakan website tiruan atau gadungan yang didesaian semirip mungkin dengan website aslinya. Akibatnya bisa anda tebak, username dan password anda untuk login ke website yang asli, telah berhasil dicuri. Dan tinggal menunggu waktu, bila kemudian data pribadi anda tersebut disalahgunakan.
Kegiatan phising bisa juga terjadi lewat email yang anda terima. Kebanyakan email tersebut mengaku dari bank atau sebuah instansi, yang menyuruh anda untuk login dengan mengklik link yang diberikan pada email tersebut. Saat anda mengklik link pada email tersebut anda pun dibawa pada website gadungan.
Untuk mencegah anda terkena pishing selalu pergunakan ‘secure email service” misal gmail, selalu mengecek kebenaran email yang anda terima dengan cara mengunjungi website aslinya, jangan sekali-kali mengklik link untuk melakukan login, usahakan untuk selalu mengetikkan sendiri alamat website yang anda tuju dengan ejaan yang benar, kalau anda login pada sebuah online banking pastikan website tersebut mempergunakan “secure login” (cirinya : alamat website tersebut berawal https:// bukan http://) dan juga mempergunakan physical security token yang akan lebih menjamin keamanan login anda.
